Forethumb is a device for entering characters into computers and smartphones using Morse code.

The Forethumb is for those interested in learning Morse code, amateur radio operators who do not often get the chance to send telegraphs, and those who want to input text in confined spaces.

How to Use

Connect a paddle (a device for inputting Morse code; please prepare one yourself) to the Forethumb, and then connect it to your computer's USB port. This setup allows you to input text as a virtual USB keyboard. To input Morse code, press the two switches on the paddle at the right timing. For example, for the letter "c", input long and short signals alternately twice as "-.-.". One switch on the paddle inputs the short signal (.), and the other inputs the long signal (-). The Forethumb is equipped with a keyer, which regularizes the timing of the signals entered through the switches.

Features

In addition to connecting a 2-contact switch (paddle) via a 3.5mm jack, Forethumb also allows the connection of custom-made switches via a general-purpose pin header on the board.
It features jacks for earphones to output sidetone (beep sounds of Morse code) and external devices. You can input quietly using earphones or connect to a microphone input of an FM transceiver for operation as F2A (modification application may be required).
